This Royal Lahaina Resort wedding was a special one for me. The moment I started communicating with Kristie and Alex, we bonded immediately over our love of the San Jose Sharks, as they are also from the Bay Area, where I grew up 🙂 We felt like instant friends, and I consider them to be good friends to this day. They were just the sweetest and kindest couple!
Kristie and Alex booked an engagement session with me on Maui about a year in advance of their wedding date, when they were planning to travel to Maui to check out different wedding venues. We really got to know each other throughout their planning process, but meeting them in person for their engagement session further solidified our connection, and made me even more excited to be a part of their wedding day a year later! 🙂
The wedding itself was just as sweet and special as the couple, as Kristie’s brother-in-law officiated their ceremony. Alex’s reaction when he saw his beautiful bride for the first time just melted my heart! Even Kristie’s bridesmaid cried when I was leaving for the evening, saying that I “made Kristie’s wedding dreams come true” (cue tears from me too!) I feel so lucky to work with such amazing clients and their equally wonderful family and friends!
I absolutely adored Kristie’s soft and romantic color palette – so delicate and sweet. And her wedding dress reminded me of the dress that I wore for my own wedding here on Maui also 🙂
And because commercial activity is not allowed on Kaanapali Beach, Kristie and Alex opted to head off property of Royal Lahaina Resort, so that we could take some beach photos up at Kapalua Bay, about 15 minutes away from the resort 🙂 It was the perfect location for them to enjoy sunset and the remainder of their evening together, before joining their family and friends back at Royal Lahaina Resort for their reception! 🙂
Any Bachelor/Bachelorette fans out there?! One other fun fact about this wedding: Kristie and Alex got married on the same exact day as the former Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk, and his new wife, Lauren Luyendyk, were getting married at the Haiku Mill here on Maui! 🙂
Kristie and Alex were truly a dream to work with and I hope you enjoy checking out their wedding below! <3
“If we were to describe all of things that Caitlin did for our wedding, this review would be a novel. Long story short, Caitlin is an incredible photographer and an even better person, and we would recommend her to anybody.
From before we even booked Caitlin, she proved herself very knowledgeable. In our first calls with her, she expertly described her vast experience and provided us with valuable advice. She quickly became an indispensable part of our planning process, helping us with everything from photography to scheduling. The fact that she has the experience of both a photographer and a bride gives her a unique perspective that we were very lucky to have access to. Caitlin worked around all of our requests and provided a calming voice that we desperately needed during the craziness of our planning.
When the big day finally arrived, Caitlin was prompt and efficient, smoothly guiding us through all of our pre-ceremony shots. Her energy was infectious and she served as a great pressure release for everybody as she worked her magic. After the ceremony, she did an excellent job of keeping everybody in line as we took family photos to make sure there was no time wasted.
As our wedding was at Kaanapali Beach, we weren’t able to take beach photos at the venue. However, Caitlin went above and beyond the call of duty driving us herself to a beach just north of the venue where we could take photos, so that the rest of our guests could relax and enjoy cocktail hour. This is an example of the kind of dedication that doesn’t show up in pictures that makes Caitlin invaluable as a part of the team.
And then there’s the photos — all of which are incredible! Caitlin’s style is bright and warm and just seeing the pictures was enough to bring tears to my wife and I’s eyes. Everything from the sneak-peeks we got just a couple days after the wedding to our final photo suite was expertly selected, edited, and delivered on-time. These are truly memories that we will cherish forever!
When you hire Caitlin, you are getting so much more than just a photographer. She is kind, caring, and somebody who we now count as a friend. Her contributions to our wedding were immeasurable, and we would gladly work again with her on anything.” – Alex Collins
